An urban game: The charm of Polish People’s Republic (PRL)

The Charm of Polish People’s Republic is an urban game taking place in Gdańsk  The game participants in the groups of three have to find assigned points which are typical for Gdańsk. The maps, quizzical texts, photographs and other gadgets are here to help. Other tasks are to find typical characters of PRL period – a woman with toilet paper rolls, curb-dealer or a lady with pickled cucumbers. This will be the place to exchange Polish millions of zlotys for dollars or food coupons for corresponding goods.

The game starts with a meeting with a city tour guide in a hotel. After a short walk over the city streets the participants reach “Roads to freedom” exhibition which introduces them to PRL times and helps to understand PRL reality. Then the game begins.

The scenario comprises numerous elements connected with Solidarity, opposition activists of the communism times and also the propaganda slogans of the government of that time. The character of the game shows the picture of the times then, seen in a distorted looking glass, ironically and with a pinch of salt.

The game has been prepared in Polish and English language version, may be played in daylight and late into the night. The game may finish in a restaurant or a pub where the evening meeting continues (additional charge)

Duration: 4 hours
